Wine Profile
Vineyard Notes
The grapes for Subterra Cabernet Sauvignon are grown on Los Liones Vineyard, located five blocks from the historic Sonoma Plaza. At just under one acre, this vineyard touts 459 vines managed completely by hand from bud break to harvest. The clone is 337, grafted onto 110R rootstock, and was planted in 1997. The slightly sloped, west facing, gravely clay loam soil provides this vineyard with great balance of vigor and nutrients for the production of intensely ripe fruit. 2011 was a tough growing season for Sonoma Valley. It is these years that truly show the vineyards character and allow for vintages expressive of unique climactic influences.
Winemaker Notes
Our winemaking style is one of simplicity and balance. Our goal once the fruit comes into the winery is to help guide the natural flavors and aromas into the bottle. Each vintage showcases the distinct environmental and climatic influences of the respective growing season forging unique wines year after year. The natural acidity, fruit, tannin, viscosity, oak, and the finish, must work together harmoniously in our wines. We love what we do and think this 2011 vintage is reflective of that passion.
